This is the gravestone of Admiral Peary's parents Charles and Mary. They are buried in Brown's Hill cemetery in South Portland, Maine section 2 plot 41. Charles was born in 1828 and died in 1859. Mary was born in 1827 and died in 1900.

Below is a very early image of the original house on Eagle Island. The front porch is not enclosed, the deck hasn't been added. The dining room and back el of the house haven't been added. I would guess the year to be early 1900's, before the discovery of the pole and before the Admiral retired to the island and added onto the house.

The Friends will show hundreds of pictures from a very young Robert Peary and his family, to their lives on Eagle Island, to the Arctic explorations all the way to the present day.

August 11, 1888 was the day Josephine Diebitsch became Mrs. Robert E. Peary.
